Hollowcore Slab: Taking on Complex Installations with Precision

At Floorspan, our hollowcore slabs have been installed in a wide range of projects, from industrial buildings to schools, police stations, warehouses, and even food stores. However, one of our most memorable projects was located near a railway, where we faced a significant challenge with the crane setup.

The Challenge

The site was right next to a major railway, a crucial line into London. We were initially told that installation wasn’t possible because of concerns about where the crane would need to be positioned. If the crane were to collapse, it would have covered the railway line, a risk no one could afford to take. The complexities of the project required three to four months of careful planning, along with several on-site meetings with Network Rail.

Innovative Solutions

To mitigate the risk, we implemented extra safety measures, including the use of massive mats designed to support the crane’s weight. These mats were so large that they had to be transported on separate lorries. After months of planning and preparation, the crane was successfully set up, and the entire installation was completed in just four hours. What seemed impossible at first was achieved through innovation, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to safety.

No challenge too big

Over the years, we’ve handled numerous challenging installations across various sectors. From airports to railways, and even lifting materials through steel frames or installing hollowcore slabs at heights up to 122 floors, we’ve seen it all. One of our key mottos is that “it can always be done, there’s always a way.” As long as it’s safe, we’ll take on any challenge and deliver outstanding results.

At Floorspan, we pride ourselves on never saying no to a challenge. Whether it’s a complex site, difficult conditions, or time-sensitive projects, we’re confident in our ability to get the job done right, every time.
