using Lightbeam+ (225mm deep beam) with 150mm deep beam

Mixed Depth Beams in a Proposed Layout

The creation and launch of our innovative Lightbeam+ has presented an interesting conundrum.

Our ethos is to always propose a solution that offers the best value for the customer. This is different to always providing the cheapest solution. The classic business quote springs to mind: “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”.

Our revolutionary Lightbeam+, with its industry-leading strength and value, allows builders to incorporate it expertly into residential projects. It can essentially compete with our own 150mm deep product range.

he innovative Lightbeam+ can outperform a 150mm deep solution whilst offering a cost saving in specific situations, especially for longer spans.

Increased strength, increased performance, increased value.

We intend to incorporate Lightbeam+ into our proposed layouts where the situation allows for added value.

For you, the customer, there is an assessment to be made – Lightbeam+ is a 225mm deep beam.

When incorporating Lightbeam+ into your development, allowances must be made in your supporting brickwork heights to ensure a level floor when completed. This means the bearing in areas where Lightbeam+ is used must be left 75mm lower.

Key Points

  • At 57kgs per linear metre, consideration must be given to the handling of the product, especially for ‘supply only’ projects – how might you transfer it from the point of delivery to the plot?

  • With prior arrangement, it’s possible for you to take advantage of our specialist delivery vehicles and have the beams placed directly on the footings. This is subject to access being available.

  • We do not typically mix beam types in the same bay. Generally, we will not use Lightbeam+ where we expect the beams to require manual movement, such as extensions at the rear of existing properties.

  • When Lightbeam+ is incorporated, we will always highlight it clearly on the drawing.

  • We will consider the bigger picture and present a proposal that offers the customer the best value for money.

  • If you would prefer a layout that only uses one specific type/depth of beam, please raise this at the enquiry stage or liaise with your estimator.

  • In carefully selected situations, it is possible to reduce the number of foundations in your development and rely on the strength and span of Lightbeam+. This approach will save you time and money.

  • Span/Load tables can be seen below and should be used in conjunction with your third-party designers with your Architects/Engineers.
