The clocks went back last week and the mornings are getting much colder. However, this hasn’t stopped our installation teams rising not so bright and early to get this beam and block installation done.
Just up the A47 from our casting facility in Wisbech is a great example of what we can do for our customers here at Floorspan. On On 30th October, 2018, one of our teams were working on a 136.55m2 new build bungalow (complete with garage) for ‘Grange Developments’, who have used us frequently over the last few years. Thank you to Patrick at ‘Grange Developments’ for allowing us access to the site over in King’s Lynn and for continuing to show faith in Floorspan’s precast concrete installation service and products.
Patrick first sent over the enquiry in September. Jill A , an experienced Floorspan estimator, was assigned the project. Jill created a design that Patrick could use to build from. This accompanies a quotation so that the customer can be sure that they are getting the best value. On this occasion, Grange Developments opted to use our beam and block installation service as the most cost-effective way of completing this stage of the project.
Below is the final design drawing produced. One of the challenges with this project was positioning the lorry so that all beams could be delivered into each bay. Unfortunately, (and what you can’t see in the picture) the ground in front of the garage (bay 7G) is not suitable for a lorry.
This is one way that the estimating, installation and transport teams work together to ensure our service runs smoothly for the customer. The drawing shows how we positioned the lorry on the day, following some communication with the client to make the ground safe.

Before the lorry could get in position, the installers were busy prepping the site. Mixing mortar, laying DPC, studying the drawing, and finalising a plan of action ready for the installation.
As soon as the Floorspan lorry arrived, the block and beam installation process was quickly underway. We unloaded beams from the lorry, with the installers spacing them ready for the infill blocks. As planned, the lorry’s rear-mounted crane could reach each bay. This attitude of planning ahead is why customers come to us; it saves time, effort and labour, ensuring great value.
As the morning rolled on, the installers worked hard to get everything completed to a high standard as quickly and efficiently as possible. Within an hour, all the beams were in place ready for the blocks to be installed.
Once all the beams were in place across the site the team were ready to fill with blocks, which we had already unloaded, so the team got to work.
Finally, we fit the slip bricks, ensuring the floor was safe and complete, and to apply grouting. We provide the correct number of slip and air bricks within our quotation.
The installation was completed in just over 5 hours. There were no unexpected delays and the floor was fitted perfectly. At the time of writing, the site is ready for the next stage of the build.
I've used Floorspan plenty of times and I will continue to do so. I've never had any issues at all. Great job!

This is what we aim for on every job, no unexpected delays, no issues, and a happy customer. Without every department doing their bit, this would not be possible.
